Codes of Practice for Hazardous Substances (EPA NZ)
Our range of workplace training courses have been tailored to meet the learning requirements of Regulation 4.5 of the Health and Safety at Work (Hazardous Substances) Regulations 2017 so that your teams are educated with the correct knowledge and will hold a basic level of competency of hazardous substances and their regulations.
We host public and on-site courses that run for half day or full day for your team members. The type depends on the class of hazardous substances your workplace carries and the Safety Data Sheet information you hold. Upon completion, we will issue a training certificate that verifies your learning competencies.
Hazardous Substances Toolbox (WorkSafe NZ)
Your Practical Guide to working safely with hazardous substances provides you with the supporting reference material for working through the 5 Steps to Safety. It provides you with information about using and storing your hazardous substances safely.
Inventory of Hazardous Substances
All sites are required to maintain a full inventory of Hazardous Substances
The inventory must include:-
1. the substance’s name and UN number (if available)
2. the maximum amount likely to be at the workplace
3. its location
4. any specific storage and segregation requirements
5. a current safety data sheet or a condensed version of the key information from the safety data sheet
6. any hazardous waste.
Location Compliance Certificate Checklist
You may require a location compliance certificate if you have explosive, flammable, oxidising, toxic or corrosive substances and the quantity exceeds the thresholds specified in the Health and Safety at Work (Hazardous Substances) Regulations 2017.
You should use Worksafe’s online calculator(external link) to check whether you need a location compliance certificate for your hazardous substances.
